SentinelOne Review

SentinelOne is a 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms Leader as well as being the only EDR platform to score 100% in MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK Evaluations. It is also a firm favourite with customers, scoring 9.3 out of 10 in user reviews and ratings on TrustRadius.

SentinelOne combines cybersecurity endpoint protection (EPP) with detection and response (EDR) in a single platform using advanced AI technology. Claranet selected it as a vendor partner of choice.

But all the acronyms in the world are useless if the software doesn't deliver on its promises.

So how does SentinelOne perform in the real world? We scoured the internet to put together this review summary. (Spoiler alert: SentinelOne beats all the baddies in the end!)

SentinelOne technical evaluations

Effectiveness is the most important yardstick for any cybersecurity software, and SentinelOne scores highly across a range of objective, third-party assessments:

  • Of 29 endpoint security vendors in the 2020 MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK evaluation, SentinelOne was the only vendor to achieve 'complete visibility with zero missed detections across Windows and Linux environments'.

  • SE Labs 'were not able to find a single hole in SentinelOne', according to CEO Simon Edwards. In its annual Breach Response Test, SentinelOne received the highest possible rating across all critical categories.

  • SentinelOne achieved the highest VB100 certification from Virus Bulletin in stringent tests on Windows. This standard requires that fewer than 0.5% of files guaranteed to have been spotted in the wild are missed and no more than 0.01% of legitimate files are blocked.

SentinelOne analyst reviews

The Gartner Magic Quadrant is a widely-respected report for technology evaluation. Getting into the 'leaders' box' is demanding: Gartner evaluated SentinelOne against a wide variety of criteria, including innovation and customer needs.

Among other strengths, the Gartner report highlights SentinelOne's use of microservices and support for containers and serverless workloads.

'As the solution has been reengineered to leverage a microservices architecture, this provides flexible hosting options to suit all customers and rapid/frequent functionality updates.'
'SentinelOne provides superior threat hunting tools and insights.'

User reviews of SentinelOne

'SentinelOne customers cite ease of deployment, excellent timeliness and quality of customer support, and effective protection,' according to Gartner.

Customer quotes from TrustRadius and Gartner Peer Insights and on the vendor's own website show that the people who use it love it:

  • On Gartner Peer Insights, SentinelOne received the highest overall rating of 4.5 compared with other vendors in the same space.

  • On TrustRadius, SentinelOne score 9.3 out of 10.

One customer put it in a nutshell: 'Simple to manage. Strong when you need to investigate. Flawless.'

'SentinelOne has become a main piece of our security portfolio. It was deployed to the majority of workstations and servers in our environment nearly overnight.' - Senior Cybersecurity Analyst
